composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

In FE (→EE), there is no accidental before the 2nd semiquaver. A sharp necessary to achieve c1, undoubtedly intended by Chopin in this case, was added in GE.

On the 2nd and 3rd beats of the bar, there are no accidentals in the R.H. in FE; the  raising G to G in the L.H. is also missing. In GE1 (→GE2) and EE, a mark was added in the L.H., whereas in the R.H. sharps were added only in the 2nd group of semiquavers, which was most probably considered sufficient due to the notation of that group with the use of an octave sign, hence at the same pitch as the 3rd group.

b. 431

composition: Op. 11, Concerto in E minor, Mvt I

..

In FE, there are no accidentals on the 2nd and 3rd beats of the bar, which is a patent inaccuracy. In the remaining editions, a part of the necessary sharps was added; however, none of the editions employed a consistent rule of validity of accidentals for notes appearing in various octaves. In GE1 (→GE2), sharps were added before the 5th, 9th, 10th and 12th semiquavers, which was further developed in GE3 – the accidentals before the 5th and 9th semiquavers were removed and added before the 6th and 8th ones. In EE, 5 sharps were added, omitting only the one before the 6th semiquaver.

In FE (→EE1,GE1GE2), the 1st quaver is not encompassed with the octave sign. This patent mistake was rectified in EE2 (→EE3) and GE3.

Slur E-B1 in sources

Our suggestion – no slur

..

According to us, the fact of beginning a two-note slur from a note provided with a wedge proves that it is a mistake, hence we omit that slur in the main text; we provide the markings in this bar with a similar form to the one in bars 448-449.
