In the main text, we introduce a simpler notation, which makes it more balanced at the same time, used by Chopin in analogous situations in bars 459-460 and 461-462. The correctness of the slur in bars 459-460 is confirmed by the proofreading (most probably authentic) of the slurring in this place – the traces visible in FE prove that the shorter f
1-g slur was removed. In GE3, removal of the slur over the bar line in the discussed place was an arbitrary decision that did not take into account the phrasing of subsequent, analogous phrases.
