We consider Chopin's correction in FEO to be final due to the following reasons:

  • it enables avoiding parallel fifths F-c2 and E(e)-b1,
  • Chopin would precede trills with figures with a specified rhythm indicating a gradually increasing speed of performing the trill on a number of occasions, cf., e.g. Allegro de Concert, op. 46, bars 179-181 and 260-261 or the Polonaise-Fantaisie, op. 61, bars 199-205, 
  • Chopin would often commit a mistake consisting in writing the top note of the trill instead of the bottom one, e.g. in the Concerto in F minor, op. 21, 1st mov., bar 335; in both cases, the trill is to start from the top note, which the composer automatically wrote in place of the main note, appearing after a while.

Taking into account the above observations, we reach a conclusion that the version of the editions with c2 is most probably erroneous.
