composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt III

The change of the type of accent in GE is a very frequent inaccuracy in Chopin first editions. The absence of the accent in FE (→EE) is probably one of the mistakes committed while proofreading bars 243-244 – cf. notes in the previous bar. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Long accents , Errors in FE , Inaccuracies in GE |

b. 326

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt III
..
The type of the accent used by Chopin at the beginning of this bar is unclear. The shape of the sign suggests a short accent, and this is how it was reproduced in GE. However, in all similar bars – bars 4, 10, 26, 28, 328, 334 and 336 – the accent in the R.H. is a long accent. Due to this reason, in the main text we suggest a long accent. The versions of FE and EE are inauthentic: the first is inaccurate, whereas the second – clearly erroneous. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Long accents , EE revisions , Inaccuracies in FE |

The accent in A is clearly longer than the signs in, e.g. the previous two bars, yet in the editions it was reproduced as a short accent. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Long accents , Inaccuracies in GE |

The long accent on the 1st beat of the bar in A was reproduced in GE1 inaccurately, by shortening the sign and placing it closer to the 2nd beat of the bar. As a result, FE (→EE) include an accent on the 2nd beat of the bar, which is a mistake. GE2 corrected the placement of the sign, but not its length. category imprint: Graphic ambiguousness; Differences between sources issues: Long accents , Inaccuracies in GE , GE revisions |
