composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt III

FE1 has an a1-c2 third on the 1st quaver. It is a perfect example of an unfinished proofreading, where the correct note was printed without having removed the erroneous one. The mistake was corrected in FE2 (→EE). category imprint: Differences between sources issues: EE revisions , Errors in FE , Terzverschreibung error , Partial corrections |

There is a cautionary before d1 in the sources, written by Chopin probably in order to avoid a d1 due to b2 in the R.H. and a very frequent use of diminished triads and four-note chords. We omit this sign in the main text, since the d-f-b chord used in this place was highlighted two bars earlier. category imprint: Editorial revisions |

The version of FE1 must be erroneous, which is proved by a comparison with analogous bars 286 and 290 as well as by the proofreading of FE2 (→EE), perhaps originated by Chopin. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Errors in FE , Terzverschreibung error , Authentic corrections of FE |

The sources include a cautionary before d1 at the beginning of the bar. In FE (→EE) and GE2 a respective sign was added also next to d in the L.H. We do not include these signs in the main text, since it is d that has been exclusively present for more than 20 bars and not d. A has an a1 as the last note in the L.H. It is almost certainly a mistake – cf. analogous figures in bars 300, 302 and 304-306. Mistakes in the number of ledger lines are the most frequent pitch errors committed by Chopin (excluding those related to the notation of accidentals). GE (→FE→EE) features the correct text, which can be ascribed to Chopin's proofreading or a fortunate mistake, since there are no visible traces of correction in print, whereas the note in A, despite three ledger lines, is written lower than the previous g1. category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources issues: Errors resulting from corrections , Terzverschreibung error , Errors in the number of ledger lines , Errors of A , Authentic corrections of GE |
