Slur from 2nd beat in A & GE2

Slur from first beat in GE (→FEEE)

Chopin marked articulation in the L.H. in bars 117-118 same as in similar bars 85-86, 87-88 and 95-96 – a staccato bass note and three subsequent crotchets under a slur. In GE1, initially, the markings were in reverse order – a slur over three crotchets in bar 117 and staccato under the tritone in bar 118. The version, incompatible with the natural way of performing this passage, is almost certainly erroneous (perhaps it is an example of a "mirror" mistake, most frequently encountered as change of direction of dynamic hairpin). In the proofreading, the slur was extended (it is indicated by its asymmetric shape) – perhaps at Chopin's request. Therefore, one should consider it a simplified correction, eliminating the most misleading element of the original version. The markings of GE1 were repeated without changes in FE (→EE), whereas in GE2 only the staccato dot in bar 118 was preserved – the dot in bar 117 and the slur were reproduced in accordance with A
