Issues : Errors in FE

b. 43-44

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt II

..

In FE, at the beginning of the line there is an erroneously placed treble clef (with a relevant set of key signatures). The patent mistake was corrected in EE.

Octave A1-A in A (→GE) & EE

Sixth C-A in FE

..

FE has a C (with a ) as the bottom note of the semiquaver. It is either a revised Terzverschreibung error or a mistake resulting from similarity of the orchestral motifs in this and the previous bar (in GE1, being the base text to FE, both bars are printed next to each other, in one line). EE did not repeat this mistake (cf. the note on the clef).

Crotchet d1-g1 with  in A (→GE)

No crotchet in FE (→EE)

Crotchet without  suggested by the editors

..

No d1-gfourth on the 4th beat of the bar is most probably a mistake (the dyad was either overlooked or left out due to an erroneous placement); in GE1 it was placed in such a way that on the upper stave the bar seems to have five crotchets.
In the main text we adhere to the notation of A, omitting only the unnecessary in this context cautionary  before g1.

No marking in FE (→EE1)

The absence of  in FE (→EE1) is most probably an oversight of the engraver.

Long accent in A

Short accent in GE & EE2 (→EE3)

No mark in FE (→EE)

..

The unquestionable long accent written in A was reproduced in GE as short and in FE (→EE1) it was overlooked. There seems to be no reason to attribute any of these changes to Chopin's intervention. In subsequent EE the accent was most probably added after GE.
