Issues : Inaccurate slurs in A
b. 167
|
composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt I
..
Differently than in analogous bars 161-166 and 168, in GE both slurs begin from the 2nd quaver in the group. It is almost certainly a result of proofreading – probably a Chopin one – since the slurs of A, particularly the second one, are exceptionally inaccurate here. The difference in slurring was not included in FE (→EE), which may be explained by distraction or a unifying revision. It is also possible that the slurs in GE1 were changed in the last phase of proofreading, already after the copies had been sent to Paris. category imprint: Graphic ambiguousness; Differences between sources issues: Inaccurate slurs in A , GE revisions , Authentic corrections of GE , FE revisions |

b. 169-170
|
composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt I
..
The astonishingly precise slurs of GE were most probably proofread by Chopin. It is indicated by minor traces of corrections and by the version of FE, which probably reflects the state prior to the proofreading. b. 176-177
|
composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt I
..
Although the slur in bar 176 is not continued in bar 177 (on a new page of A), the continuation is suggested so clearly that in GE it was led to the first quaver in bar 177. However, this undoubtedly correct version was not reproduced in FE (→EE), which is either a mistake of the engraver of FE or a proof of a correction of the slur in GE1 in the last phase of proofreading. category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources issues: Inaccuracies in FE , Inaccurate slurs in A |

b. 179-180
|
composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt I
..
The slur, written in A at the transition between the bars, is unclear, as far as its range and meaning are concerned. Its length makes it resemble Chopin ties, whereas its shape – phrase marks. Since, when considering the pedalling, sustaining f2 gives the same sound effect as omitting the note, and it may be more difficult to perform, we assume – in accordance with all editions – that Chopin meant a phrase mark. category imprint: Graphic ambiguousness; Differences between sources issues: Inaccurate slurs in A , GE revisions |

b. 190-192
|
composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt I
..
According to us, ending the slur on the last crotchet in bar 191 is an inaccuracy of the notation of A – cf. the longer slur in the L.H. as well as the slur over a similar phrase in bars 188-190. Starting the slur in GE1 (→FE→EE) only from bar 191 is an example of a characteristic manner of the engraver of GE1.
