Slurs from 2nd quaver in A (→GE)

Slurs from 1st quaver in FE (→EE)

..

Differently than in analogous bars 161-166 and 168, in GE both slurs begin from the 2nd quaver in the group. It is almost certainly a result of proofreading – probably a Chopin one – since the slurs of A, particularly the second one, are exceptionally inaccurate here. The difference in slurring was not included in FE (→EE), which may be explained by distraction or a unifying revision. It is also possible that the slurs in GE1 were changed in the last phase of proofreading, already after the copies had been sent to Paris.

The astonishingly precise slurs of GE were most probably proofread by Chopin. It is indicated by minor traces of corrections and by the version of FE, which probably reflects the state prior to the proofreading. See also the adjacent note on staccato dots.

Staccato dots on e's in GE

The staccato dots over the e notes in GE are almost certainly a result of a Chopin proofreading, presumably in the last stage of corrections.

In A there is neither a  raising d2 to din the marked place nor a  restoring dfive semiquavers later. Corresponding signs are in the parts of oboes and clarinets in Morch, which confirms an imposing suspicion of Chopin's mistake. The signs were added already in GE1 (→FEEE, →GE2), in which one could see the composer's proofreading. In the main text we also add a cautionary  before b1; it is also in GE2.

Slur in A

2 slurs in GE (→FEEE)

..

In this case, it is difficult to consider the slurs of GE (→FEEE), contrary to the unambiguous slur of A, to be a schematic distortion, typical for GE1, since they correspond to the motifs of which the phrase is built, and not to the metric units. However, a possible proofreading by Chopin is uncertain, since there are no traces of corrections in any of the few studied copies of GE1 and GE1a
