Issues : Terzverschreibung error

b. 233

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt I

d in A (→GE), EE & FES

f in FE

..

The logic of the figuration's structure and a comparison with analogous bar 235 point to a Terzverschreibung error of FE. The conclusion finds confirmation in a correction of this note performed in pencil – perhaps with Chopin's hand – in FES.

b. 264

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt I

..

The top most note of the chord on the 4th quaver in GE1 (→FE1) is an erroneous b3. The mistake was corrected – most probably by Chopin – in the proofreading of FE2 (→EE). The correct version is also in GE2.

b. 285

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt I

f in A (→GE)

d in FE (→EE)

..

The version of FE (→EE) is most probably a Terzverschreibung error – in the recapitulation A has an almost unchanged accompaniment, with respect to the exposition, in the entire theme (from bar 273); there are also no visible traces of correction in print in FE.

b. 300

composition: Op. 21, Concerto in F minor, Mvt I

d1-g1 in A (→GE), EE & FED

f1-b1 in FE

..

Disruption of the regularity of the sequence of semiquavers in the version of FE is certainly a result of a mistake of the engraver, who instead of the correct notes repeated two previous ones (f1-b1). Chopin corrected it in FED. EE also includes the correct text, which proves the good intuition and courage of the reviser of this edition, since the mistake, no matter how obvious, when seeing the correct text of A (→GE), gives a version that is neither sonically striking nor pianistically inconvenient.
