  b. 21-22

 in GC (→GE) & EE2

No sign in FE (→EE1)

Our variant suggestion

The sources include two clearly different sets of dynamic indications in bars 21-24:

  •  in GC (→GE) and
  •  and cresc. in FE (→EE1).

The chronology of the versions cannot be determined in an irrefutable manner, as the preserved sources reveal no visible traces of corrections, as far as the discussed matter is concerned. The most likely possibility seems to be a later addition of  and cresc. in the form of complement of [A] (→FE) already after GC have been prepared and this is the version, defining the next pair of dynamically contrasted bars (cf. bars 17-20), that we consider to be the basic one. However, due to the fact that  in bar 21 can also be imagined as a sign complementing  and  (so it was interpreted in EE2), in the main text we suggest it in a variant form.
