Issues : Errors in FE

b. 198-199

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt II

Slur in GC (→GE) & FE1 (→FE2FE3,EE)

No slur in FE4

..

Deleting the slur over the three-note motif, totally unjustified, as far as the music is concerned, is a possible result of misunderstanding at the proofreading of FE4, whose aim was addition of the tie of b2. See the adjacent note.

b. 216

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt II

Different accents in GC (→GE)

No marks in FE

Long accent in EE

..

As in bar 28, in the main text we give the notation in GC (→GE) which raises no reservations. The lack of accents in FE is certainly a mistake, and the mark in EE – most probably a long accent – a complement likely by Chopin.

b. 216-217

composition: Op. 35, Sonata in B♭ minor, Mvt II

..

The slur over the pair of octaves is overlooked in FE1. The mistake was corrected already in FE2.

c3 in GC (→GE) & EE2

No c3 in chord in FE (→EE1)

..

The absence of the c3 note in the 2nd chord is certainly an oversight of the engraver of FE (→EE1) – the note is present in respective bar 31, whereas the recapitulation was most probably not written out in [A]. Similarly in the next bar.
