Our variant suggestion with

The  and  indications added in EE1 may come from Chopin, added together with cresc. - - in the previous bars. However, their authenticity raises doubts:

  • leading crescendo until  seems to be precocious, if we take into consideration the scale and the dynamic structure of the entire Marche;
  • in EE the typeface of the dashes marking the range of cresc. is different in bar 60 than in the previous bars. It can indicate a later addition of dynamic indications in this place, which could also include the signs in bars 61-62;
  • in EE2  was changed to , which, unless it is an arbitrary revision, may be a correction of an erroneous interpretation of Chopin entry in the base text to EE1.

There are three possibilities:

  • the strongly contrasting  and  indications in EE1 are authentic;
  • Chopin wrote only  and , which was misinterpreted in EE1 and corrected in EE2;
  • none of these indications is authentic.

In this case, in the main text we do not include the indications of EE, alternatively, we suggest, however, two variant solutions.
