  b. 81-82

 in FC (→GE)

 in FE

 &  in EE

The moment in which , written by Chopin in bar 82 in FC, is to be placed is not entirely clear. The sign is placed in the middle of the bar, however, at the same time it seems to fill it entirely. The interpretation is facilitated by the visible deletions in FC – initially, bars 81-82 were filled with the cresc. indication, led from  at the beginning of bar 81 to  in bar 83; Chopin deleted all these indications and wrote  only in bar 81 and a new  in bar 82. In this situation, the most logical solution seems to be an assumption that the culminant dynamic indication is to be placed at the end of the preceding it  sign, hence at the beginning of bar 82.

The missing  hairpins in FE could have been linked with the accents in the R.H., however, according to us, it is rather an inaccuracy of notation. The whole-bar hairpins in EE can, in turn, result from an inaccurate interpretation of the range of the sign towards the abbreviated notation of these bars in the base text.
