Issues : Inaccuracies in GE

The use of the time signature surprises only in GE1, as in FE the indication was not used in the Etudes – contrary to the manuscripts – at all, both in Op. 25 and in Op. 10 and the Etude in F minor, Dbop. 36 No. 1 (cf. also the Impromptu in A major, Op. 29). In any case, the correctness and authenticity of the time signature is undeniable towards the compatible version of GC and EE. The correct time signature was returned in GE2 (→GE3). category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Changes of metre , Inaccuracies in GE , Inaccuracies in FE , GE revisions , 4/4 or 2/2 |

The wedge in GC, confirmed by EE, was reproduced in GE as a staccato dot. Therefore, the evaluation of the authenticity of the dot in FE also advises caution. The tendency to interpret wedges as dots was very clear in the B&H publishing houses – cf., e.g., the Nocturne in D major, Op. 27 No. 2, bar 12 or the Scherzo in C minor, Op. 39, bar 18. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Inaccuracies in GE , Inaccuracies in FE , Wedges |

We preserve the notation of GC, in which the accent (long) is not related to and it seems to concern the R.H. The notation used in FE was, however, used by Chopin, hence it can be authentic. The short accent in GE is an inaccuracy resulting from the fact that the sign of the long accent did not belong to the set of standard music indications and each time it was interpreted either as a common accent or as diminuendo. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Inaccuracies in GE |

Lack of the wedge for the L.H. may correspond to the notation of the base text to FE, however, it cannot be excluded that the engraver confused the wedge for a fingering numeral. In the remaining sources the wedges are present in the parts of both hands (except for GE1, in which the signs were undoubtedly misinterpreted as staccato dots). category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Inaccuracies in GE , GE revisions , Wedges |
