There is no clear reason to doubt the authenticity of the diminuendo indication included in EE, although one cannot entirely exclude it being added by the reviser under the influence of analogy with bars 15-16. In the main text we give the crescendo indication on the basis of Chopin entry in GE (→GE). The version of EE constitutes only a variation of it, whereas cresc. in FE describes an already entirely different dynamic concept, which can be considered as an equal variant.
