b. 67

composition: Op. 25 No 10, Etude in B minor

 in GC

&  d3 suggested by the editors

No ornament in FE

 in EE & GE

..

Chopin added the grace note in GC (it is written with his hand) and probably also in the base text to EE.

The issue of cautionary sharps before the grace note and d3 – see the adjacent note.

b. 67

composition: Op. 25 No 10, Etude in B minor

Long accent in GC (→GE1)

No mark in FE & EE

In the main text we include the long accent, written – probably by Chopin – in GC (→GE1). In later GE it was arbitrarily changed to

b. 67-69

composition: Op. 25 No 10, Etude in B minor

No indication in GC (→GE)

in bars 67-69 in FE

in bars 68-69 in EE

..

The difference in the placement of the dim. - - indication in FE and EE proves its independent addition in the base texts to these editions. It is also possible that, as it was probably in analogous bars 47-49 and 87-89, Chopin added the indication in the proofreading of FE.

b. 67

composition: Op. 25 No 10, Etude in B minor

..

The cautionary  before the grace note was written by Chopin in GC (→GE) and probably in the base text to EE. In GE2 (→GE3) a  was added also before the top note of the octave, d3. In the main text we include both signs.

b. 70

composition: Op. 25 No 10, Etude in B minor

Dotted minim f in GC & EE

Dotted minim with tie in FE

Minim in GE1

Dotted crotchet in GE2 (→GE3)

..

It is hard to state whether the lack of extending dot of f in GE1 is a revision – by analogy to bar 50 – or a mistake. The version of GE2 (→GE3) does not find justification in the sources.

It is also unclear how the tie sustaining f in FE is to be considered. It could be Chopin proofreading, yet also an earlier version or even a mistake, as the tie is absent both in analogous bars 50-51 and the remaining sources. Therefore, we do not include it in the main text.
