The version of FE1 is certainly erroneous. The omitted g1 note was added in FE2. At the same time, mistakes were not prevented – a totally unjustified  was added before the added note, dedicated probably for the bottom note, b – cf. the previous note.

In FC and FE there is no  raising b to b in the 2nd half of the bar. This patent inaccuracy was corrected in GE and most probably in EE, as the defect was present probably in all Stichvorlage manuscripts. The sharp added in FE2 before the 11th semiquaver was probably an attempt to correct this inaccuracy, a doubly failed attempt – the sign was added three semiquavers too late and at a wrong pitch.

Our variant suggestion

The poco ritenuto indication was most probably added in the proofreading of FE. A probable reason could have been the layout of the note text, in which bar 97, the first in the new line, was devoid of a clear suggestion of retardation (smorz. is at the end of the previous line). In the graphical layout adopted in mUltimate Chopin, the validity of smorzando until the end of the E major section is beyond any doubt, hence we include poco ritenuto, of a detailing character, yet not introducing any new elements, in brackets.

Chopin added the pedalling in bars 100-101 and 105-107 probably in the proofreading of FE (similarly in bars 108-111). This kind of evident additions were performed by the composer in, e.g., the Etude in A minor, No. 5, bars 54 and 58-61.
