b. 21

composition: Op. 25 No 3, Etude in F major

..

GC (→GE1) and FE have a  before b1 at the beginning of the bar. The sign is unnecessary here, however, it points to Chopin's way of thinking, who probably already here heard the C minor key, prevailing in bars 21-24. The sign was overlooked in EE, which most probably is a result of an oversight (in EE1 the next  before ais also absent), and deleted in GE2 (→GE3), which is a reasonable revision in this context.

b. 22

composition: Op. 25 No 3, Etude in F major

No marking in GC, FE, EE & GE2 (→GE3)

in GE1

..

in GE1 is most probably an error of the engraver who confused the bars or either did not notice the error at all or forgot to delete the superfluous sign.

GE1 has an erroneous instead of as the 2nd quaver in the L.H. The error was corrected in GE2 (→GE3).

b. 23

composition: Op. 25 No 3, Etude in F major

in GC (→GE) & EE

No marking in FE

According to us, it is highly unlikely that Chopin deleted on purpose the  sign in the base text to FE or while proofreading this edition. It would mean that he resigned from the characteristic echo effect while repeating the motif one octave higher, an effect Chopin suggested – with the use of  in bar 23 and 43 – as one of the first dynamic changes introduced in [A] still before performing Stichvorlage copies (both  in GC are written with the copyist's hand). Therefore, we are probably dealing with the engraver's oversight.

Pedal change in GC (→GE1)

No markings in FE, EE & GE2 (→GE3)

..

One can have doubts whether the additional pedal change written in GC (→GE1) is compatible with Chopin's intention. The composer deleted pedal changes in GC in similar situations on a number of occasions (see the characteristics of this copy). The compatible version of FE and EE, following in the direction of these changes, allows us to consider the fact of leaving the pedal change in this place as an inaccuracy at the time of introducing corrections.
