b. 21
|
composition: Op. 24 No. 1, Mazurka in G minor
..
As the slur in A is drawn with a bold stroke of the pen, in GE it begins on the 1st note of the bar. A comparison with analogous bars 17, 25 and 29, and the analysis of slurring of the entire fragment (bars 17-32) in A makes us conclude that Chopin meant a slur beginning on the 2nd crotchet of the bar. Such a slur can be seen in FE (→EE), which may be due to Chopin's correction. category imprint: Graphic ambiguousness; Differences between sources |

b. 24
|
composition: Op. 24 No. 1, Mazurka in G minor
..
The original performance markings of A, misreproduced in GE, were changed by Chopin in the proofing of FE (→EE). For our main text we take that latest (Chopin's) version. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Authentic corrections of FE |

b. 30-31
|
composition: Op. 24 No. 1, Mazurka in G minor
..
The first slur in bar 31 serves a double purpose in A (→GE): it is part of the triplet marking and at the same time it defines its articulation. When correcting FE (→EE), Chopin included a longer fragment of the phrase under the slur, and therefore the initial triplet slur lost its motivic and articulative meaning. In this situation we omit that slur, considering its preservation to be an inaccuracy of correction (cf. General Editorial Principles, point 16). category imprint: Differences between sources; Corrections & alterations issues: Authentic corrections of FE , Triplet slurs |

The change of the 1st crotchet from B flat to B flat1 in the proofing of FE (→EE) definitely comes from Chopin. category imprint: Differences between sources; Corrections & alterations |

b. 34
|
composition: Op. 24 No. 1, Mazurka in G minor
..
Both constituents of the third e flat1-g1 have the value of a dotted crotchet in A (→GE). In the proofing of FE the value of the lower note was shortened by removing the dot after e flat1. In EE the corrected version of FE was considered erroneous and a dot was added again. The same situation occurs in the analogous bar 42. The change in FE was probably made upon Chopin's request. category imprint: Differences between sources; Corrections & alterations issues: Different values of chord components , Authentic corrections of FE |
