b. 21-22

The fact that the slurs were corrected in FE (→EE) is doubtless. Yet, the result of the correction seems dubious, as there is apparently no reason for this fragment to differ in this tiny detail from the three others (bars 17-18, 25-26 and 29-30). A is exceptionally precise in the notation of those slurs – none of the eight is in any way unclear as to its extent. What is more, the erasures  in bar 17 related most probably to the change of slurring of an analogous motif: the slur and the numeral '3' were moved under the staff, yet the initial slur embraced the triplet only.

In the editors' opinion that correction could relate to the inaccurately printed slurs; for instance, slur ends might have been merged with dots (cf. slurs in bars 25 and 30).

Taking the above into consideration, we leave the version of A (→GE) in the main text.
