Fingering in FE (→GE)

EE

The fingering in bar 22 added by Chopin in a proofreading of FE (→GE) was repeated with a change and completed in EE. Fontana's suggestion for the 1st half of this bar offers an undoubtedly calmer position of the hand, hence one could wonder whether the version of FE does not contain a mistake – if the digit '3' concerned the 4th semiquaver (instead of the 2nd), the result would correspond to the more comfortable fingering. This kind of fingering with the change of the finger used on the 2nd and 4th notes of a figure was written by Chopin himself in bars 50 and 51. In the main text we leave the notation of FE, as the aforementioned notes do not prejudge its correctness.
