Issues : Inaccuracies in GC
b. 130
|
composition: Op. 38, Ballade in F major
..
In A the slur in the L.H. was corrected – Chopin originally wrote one slur embracing the upper voice of the L.H. from the middle of bar 129 to the middle of bar 131, then he corrected it by dividing it into two parts in the middle of bar 130. This corrected variant was included in FE and EE, while in GC there is a version with one slur starting earlier, that is from the c quaver in the bottom voice, which was then repeated in GE. In the main text we give the corrected version of A. category imprint: Interpretations within context; Corrections & alterations issues: Inaccurate slurs in A , Inaccuracies in GC |

composition: Op. 38, Ballade in F major

The missing dot extending c in GC (→GE) is most likely a result of the copyist's oversight. The fact of sustaining this note slightly longer than in analogous bars 101 and 107 could have been related to its repetition in the middle of the previous bar. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Inaccuracies in GC |

It is not entirely clear what staccato marks were intened by Chopin in this bar. They resemble dots In A despite being bigger than usual – possibly Chopin emboldened them to make them better visible, or changed wedges for dots. FE read them as wedges (except for the omitted L.H. mark), GC and EE – as dots (in the copy the L.H. mark was omitted, and reinstated in GE. category imprint: Graphic ambiguousness; Differences between sources issues: Inaccuracies in FE , GE revisions , Wedges , Inaccuracies in GC |

b. 142
|
composition: Op. 38, Ballade in F major
..
In A (→GC) bar 142 was divided into two lines. It is probably due to this issue that the copyist forgot to continue the slur in the L.H. in the 2nd half of the bar. In GE the slur was extended to the last semiquaver. category imprint: Interpretations within context issues: GE revisions , Inaccuracies in GC , Uncertain slur continuation |

In GC (→GE) and FE there is no decresc. in the R.H. In A it is shorter than in analogous bars 141 and 145, yet there is no reason to differentiate between the places. A similar harmonisation of these hairpins was performed in EE. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Inaccuracies in FE , Unclear hairpins in A , Inaccuracies in GC |
