Issues : Authentic corrections of EE

composition: Op. 42, Waltz in A♭ major

There are no accidentals before the 2nd chord of the bar in FE0 (→FEG). This patent inaccuracy was corrected in FE1 (partially, as only a before b2 was added) and in GE1 and EE (both necessary naturals). In GE2 (→GE3) the third before e2 was added. category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources issues: Errors in FE , Accidentals in different octaves , GE revisions , Omission of current key accidentals , Authentic corrections of FE , Authentic corrections of GE , Authentic corrections of EE |

Chopin added the indication leggiero in FEG (→GE) and in the base text to EE, whereas – in the base text to FE and EE. As each of these indications was written by Chopin in two base texts and in one of them – EE – he wrote both, in the main text we give both indications. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Authentic corrections of FE , Authentic corrections of GE , Authentic corrections of EE |

In FE1 the crescendo indication was placed – most probably after the proofreading entry of Chopin – already in bar 238. In the main text we adopt the version of FEG (→GE) and EE. category imprint: Differences between sources; Corrections & alterations issues: Authentic corrections of FE , Authentic corrections of GE , Authentic corrections of EE |

The original version of last two chords, conveyed by FE0 (→FEG→GE1→GE2), was completed by Chopin with a2 notes in the proofreading of FE1 and in the base text to EE. In turn, in GE3 another addition was introduced, most probably modelled on the progression of chords in the previous bar. However, there are no reasons for possible recognition of this version as authentic. category imprint: Differences between sources; Corrections & alterations issues: GE revisions , Authentic corrections of FE , Authentic corrections of EE |

The staccato dot written by Chopin in FEG may be ambiguous: it is not known whether it concerns the octave in the R.H. in bar 261 or the octave in the L.H. in the great stave right above it, in bar 256. It may be the reason explaining why the sign was not included in GE1 (→GE2→GE3). The sign included in EE is also not entirely clear – in spite of the fact that it resembles a wedge, it has a dot in its structure. Therefore, it is hard to conclude what was written in Chopin base text to EE; hence to the main text we adopt a staccato dot, written by Chopin's hand in FEG. category imprint: Graphic ambiguousness; Differences between sources issues: Authentic corrections of GE , Wedges , Authentic corrections of EE |
