Issues : Authentic corrections of FE

Lack of the returning e2 on the 7th semiquaver and the returning e2 two semiquavers later clearly suggests the use of the C minor chord in the middle of this bar. Chopin's proofreadings of FE (→GE,EE), however, ensure that, similarly as in bar 4, the composer's intention was the C major chord (in A analogous bar 37 is already written correctly). category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources; Corrections & alterations issues: Omissions to cancel alteration , Errors of A , Authentic corrections of FE |

b. 13

composition: Op. 10 No 7, Etude in C major

Lack of the slur in A must be considered as an inaccuracy of the notation, as slurs in a similar context appear in A in 10 out of 12 places, while after Chopin's corrections in FE – in all cases. According to us, the graphic layout, applied only in this bar (not included in mUltimate Chopin), in which a1 is written in the bass clef and then the quavers in the treble clef, could have influenced both the omission of the slur in A and the scope of the slur added in a proofreading of FE (→GE,EE). The graphic gap between a1 and g1 contributes to the fact that the natural from the phrasing and articulation point of view slur beginning from a1 (see the remark concerning bar 1) becomes hard or even impossible to draw. Therefore, in the main text we suggest to begin the slur earlier. category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources; Editorial revisions issues: Authentic corrections of FE |

In A there is no lowering a1 to a1 in the L.H. and the lowering e2 to e2 on the 9th semiquaver in the R.H. The comparison with 11 analogous bars proves Chopin's oversight. In FE (→GE,EE) the accidentals were added. category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources issues: Errors of A , Authentic corrections of FE |

Chopin added the slur in bar 15, while proofreading FE (→GE,EE). According to us, the proofreading's aim was to extend the slur from bar 14. See the remark on extending the slur in bars 6-8. category imprint: Interpretations within context; Differences between sources issues: Authentic corrections of FE |
