Fingering in A

FE (→GE)

EE

In A Chopin marked the fingering in the R.H. only at the beginning of the Etude, as he probably considered its generalisation in case of the remaining situations to be seamless. In bar 22 he also wrote the fingering in the L.H. However, at the time of proofreading FE, he decided to specify the indications in a few places, generally in these where the use of either the 3rd or the 4th finger could raise some doubts: in bars 1, 17, 33, 42-43 and 56. In EE Fontana wrote in detail the fingering in the R.H. in bars 1, 3-4 and 7-8, on the basis of Chopin's indications. He also introduced less detailed additions in bars 16, 18, 22, 24, 33 and 48. Occasionally, he added fingering for the L.H. in bars 1-3, 7, 15 and 22.

We discuss the fingering of A, contrary to the remaining indications, separately at the beginning of bar 26
