Fingering in A

FE (→GE)

EE

Chopin provided this Etude with fingering already in A. Some of the digits were then omitted in FE (→GE), generally due to the engraver's oversights (e.g., '4' in bar 2), some were wrongly recreated or misplaced. There are also places in which Chopin completed the indications, while proofing FE (→GE,EE): bars 7, 16.

In EE Fontana completed Chopin's fingering conveyed by FE. Generally, the additions naturally result from the composer's indications, although in bar 1 and analog., 20-21, 33, 66, 76 the fingering added by Fontana is certainly not the only possible option. Moreover, the confirmed and alleged errors in bars 25, 32, 40 were corrected. In bar 65 there are two fingering possibilities. In the entire Etude we can find additions in bars 1-3, 9-11, 17-22, 33, 40, 44, 65-74, 76 and 79.
