We consider the mark of A, which is quite unclear, as a long accent. The atypical notation probably stems from lack of space caused by the corrections performed one line above. In A the slur running from the g1-g2 octave is written only in bar 42 (at the end of the text's line). This inaccuracy probably caused its misinterpretation in FE (→EE) as a tie sustaining g2.
