Short slur in A

Longer slur in FE (→GE)

Longest slur in EE

The ending of the phrase in the R.H. (from the 2nd half of bar 27) constitutes a difficult editorial problem. Between the version of the editions and the version of A there are a few differences whose mutual relations are unclear and whose interpretation carries a lot of uncertainty:

  • slurring – the shorter slur of A, probably replaced with the longer one in a proofreading of FE; the latter could have been inaccurately drawn or interpreted (end of the line!);
  • rhythm – in the editions there is no tie sustaining d3, which is included in A; Chopin's proofing is a very likely possibility here, as in the accentuated chord a repetition of the melodic note seems to be more advantageous;
  • pitch – the issue of Chopin's possible proofing changing f2 to g2 in the last chord seems to be unsolvable with the current state of the sources.
