Literal reading of slur in A (→FEGE)

Slur in A, possible interpretation, slur in EE

Probable interpretation of slur in A

The ambiguous ending of the slur of A in bar 80 was reproduced without any change in FE (→GE). According to us, there are two ways of interpretation of the slur:

  • taking into account the fact that the slur reaches equally far beyond the first and last notes in the bar, we can assume the notation of EE to be accurate;
  • the dynamic indications of A () prove that Chopin treated the chord at the beginning of bar 81 as an ending of the previous phrase, which is naturally corresponded by the slur led exactly to this chord.
