We give Chopin's dynamic indications in bars 42 and 48 in the main text on the basis of FE. In the remaining editions they were recreated in a slightly changed form (except for EE2, in which cresc. in bar 42 was omitted).

In the main text we give the  sign after FE. In the remaining editions it was placed a little bit later, which, after all, has no practical meaning. According to us, the atypical – compared to the remaining pedalling of the Etude – position of this sign does not have to be erroneous: perhaps in this way Chopin wanted to draw attention to the need of more cautious pedalling in relation to diminuendo.
