In the entire Etude the fingering of FE (→GE,EE) certainly comes from Chopin, who most probably added it only during the preparations of the publication of Op. 10 (cf. the Etude in A minor, No. 2). The digits added by Fontana in bars 2, 8-10, 36, 42, 44, 46, 50-58, 60 and 77-78 constitute only a development of authentic indications, they can be even considered as justified (at least partially), although certainly not necessarily. However, the additions in bars 3, 5, 14, 22-23, 27, 31, 51-53 and 62-64 describe different proposals than the ones by Chopin. At the same time, it is worth mentioning that Chopin did not once copy the 1-3-4-5 fingering sequence proposed by Fontana (or 5-4-3-1 in descending passages) in this Etude.
Small changes in the indications of Chopin fingering were also introduced in GE4 (→GE5), e.g., in bar 42.
