The second in CLI and Ap is the original version, compatible with the general texture scheme of the Etude, in which the chromatic passages in the upper voice are accompanied with two-note chords. In the main text we give the version introduced in FEcor (→FE→GE,EE). Chopin had already introduced a similar change in analogous bar 15, both in Ap and in the base text for FE.
