No accidental in A (→FEGE1)

 in EE & GE2 (→GE3GE4)

Our suggestion

..

Before the 2nd semiquaver of the last group, there is no accidental in A (→FEGE1), which formally gives c2. A few accidentals, overlooked in A in bars 57-60, allow for assuming Chopin's inattention also in this case. In the entire 4-bar section, in the parts of both hands he used only the notes of the key of F major as transitional notes (second semiquavers of each group). Deviation from this rule in the last figure, based on a chord which directly introduces this key, would be completely incomprehensible. The natural was added in EE and GE2 (→GE3GE4).

composition: Op. 10 No 8, Etude in F major

In A the last quaver is the F-c fifth, yet the bottom note in FE1 is a G. This patent error was corrected in all remaining editions.

No slurs in A (→FEGE1)

Slur in EE

Our suggestion

..

Less precise notation of the last appearance of the main theme of the Etude is revealed by, e.g., lack of some of the slurs in the part of the L.H. We suggest to complete them after bars 15-22, which are most accurately written in this respect. Some of the suggested additions were already introduced – probably on the basis of comparison with analogous places – in EE (in bar 64) and GE2 (→GE3GE4) – in bar 66.

Semibreve in A & GE

Minim in FE (→EE3)

Minim in EE4

..

The version of FE (→EE3) is probably a result of misunderstanding of the notation of A. The later change of notation into two-part writing is an arbitrary invention of the reviser of EE4, which is of no significance in this context (cf. bar 31).
