Chopin's fingering given in the main text – in bar 29 in the R.H., in bar 30 in the L.H. – was added in a proofreading of FE. It was also reproduced in GE, yet inaccurately – the 3rd digit in bar 29 was omitted. The slurs of A, interpreted literally, are certainly inaccurate. They can be interpreted as separated, as in bars 29-30, or as continuous, as in bars 33-34 (the 2nd slur, started too late, is certainly inaccurate, in turn, the 1st one suggests lack of division on the bar line). In FE (→GE,EE) it was the 1st interpretation that was adopted, which is graphically closer to the real notation of A. It is highly unlikely that Chopin proofread these slurs. It is hard to determine whether the slurs of FE (→GE,EE), separated contrary to the clear notation of A, are a result of Chopin's proofreading. In the main text we give the pedalling which Chopin added while proofreading FE (→EE). In GE1 the mark was omitted, which was added in subsequent GE,s, most probably on the basis of the authentic pedalling in bars 19-20.
