Pedalling

b. 53-56

composition: Op. 10 No 8, Etude in F major

No pedalling in A

Pedalling in FE (→EE)

Our alternative suggestion

..

The pedalling was added in a proofreading of FE (→GE,EE). The omitted  mark closing the pedal from bar 53, probably by mistake, was completed in GE. In the main text we suggest the same solution. The  mark in bar 53 is written in FE (→EE) under the rest. According to us, it is the notation's inaccuracy, therefore, in the main text we move the sign one quaver later. Alternatively, it cannot be excluded that according to Chopin's intention, the pedal should be depressed at the beginning of the bar.

b. 68-70

composition: Op. 10 No 8, Etude in F major

No pedalling in A

Pedalling in FE (→GE,EE)

..

Chopin added the pedalling in a proofreading of FE (→GE,EE). It is not clear whether it is meant to indicate a slightly different performance than in bars 8-10 and 22-24, where there are no indications, or whether Chopin marked the pedalling, which he considered to be obvious from the beginning, only here.

b. 71-72

composition: Op. 10 No 8, Etude in F major

 in A (→FEGE1)

  in EE & GE2 (→GE3GE4)

Our suggestion

..

In bar 71 the missing  mark after  is not striking in A, in which the pedalling is not precisely indicated. However, in FE (→GE,EE) Chopin added indications in adjacent bars, hence in the main text we suggest the moment of the pedal's release (change) in accordance with the harmonic flow. In EE and GE2 (→GE3GE4), the  mark was added earlier, at the end of bar 71.
