Rhythm

b. 66

composition: Op. 45, Prelude in C♯ minor

Crotchet g in FE (→EE1)

Dotted crotchet in GE & EE2

..

In the main text we give the more precise notation of GE. Lack of a dot in FE (→EE1) may be a result of the engraver's inattention. In EE2 a dot was added on the basis of the version of GE.

composition: Op. 45, Prelude in C♯ minor

Rhythm and slur in FE1

FE2 and EE1

Rhythm & slurs in EE2

Additional combination of rhythm and slur

..

The rhythm of FE (→EE) is probably earlier or was even left inadvertently at the time of possible corrections in [A1]. Due to that, we give priority to the version of GE (also introduced into EE2). A similar difference also occurs in bar 71.
In both sources based directly on autographs – FE1 and GE – the slur in that bar continues the slur from bar 66. The remaining versions of slurring are, according to us, not authentic. An additional combination fully enables to independently treat the rhythm and slurring here.

b. 68

composition: Op. 45, Prelude in C♯ minor

Notation in FE (→EE)

..

In the main text we give the notation of GE, which is more coherent with the notation of appropriate octaves in bar 70 and 74. The version of FE (→EE) most probably means that in that one place Chopin already in [A1] used the notation, which he subsequently, writing [A2] (→GE), considered the better one.

b. 70-74

composition: Op. 45, Prelude in C♯ minor

Rhythmic notation in FE

Our suggestion

..

In the main text we make the notation of the 2nd half of bar 70 and 74 more precise, following the undoubtedly correct and precise notation of FE1 in bar 8 and GE in bar 22.

b. 71

composition: Op. 45, Prelude in C♯ minor

Rhythm in FE (→EE1)

GE and EE2

..

In the main text we adopt the probably later rhythm of GE and EE2.
