The notation of GE, although perfectly correct, does not render Chopin’s intentions in this fragment, according to the editors. It is reflected by the notation in three analogous bars, bars 40, 44 and 48, in which both notes of the octave in the middle of the bar are connected with one stem. Moreover, the logic of leading the voices requires the stem to connect longer rhythmic values and not quavers (Cf. the remark concerning bars 8-22). Due to those circumstances, for the main text we propose a notation modelled on GE, modified on the basis of comparison with other similar fragments.
FE (→EE) recreates the probably earlier authentic version of the figure’s notation.
