Pedalling in EF

The pedalling of EF in bars 63-66 could have certainly been written by Chopin. However, we do not propose it in the main text, as despite its concordance with the Chopin style, the authenticity of those indications poses a problem:

  • lack of pedalling in JC means that most probably it also was not included in [AI], the only authentic source on which EF is based;
  • harmonic and textural structure of those bars naturally suggests such pedalling – it is exactly those indications to expect if it was Fontana who would be supposed to complete them.

Faced with a selection between probably non-authentic indications of EF and almost certainly Chopin's indication of pedalling in PE, we leave the notation of the base text with no additions in this respect.
