Issues : Long accents

The sources have different types of accents used in those bars, and those accents are also placed differently. In our main text we have the version of GC that unifies those differences. It may also be considered as an interpretation of the notation of FE and EE. The version of EE is probably inaccurate. category imprint: Graphic ambiguousness; Differences between sources issues: Long accents , EE inaccuracies |

Missing accents in bars 101-102 in FE were probably omitted by oversight. EE has short accents here, just like almost everywhere else in that edition. GC (→GE) definitely have long accents. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Long accents , FE revisions |

On the basis of extant sources it is difficult to determine whether Chopin wanted to have long or short accents here. In GC, the accents are quite large, yet clearly shorter than those appearing earlier, in bars 92-96 and 99-102. Moving the accents between the staves in GE makes us think that also in EE the accent placement does not necessarily match the notation of the manuscript that served as the base text for it. Lack of any accent in bar 107 in FE is definitely an error. category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Long accents , Inaccuracies in FE , GE revisions |

The accent in this bar can be found in EE - a short one - and in GC (→GE) – a long one. Actually, when considering the notation of just that single page in GC, one could have doubts as to the length of that accent - our interpretation is based on comparisons with analogous bars. The absence of the accent from FE is probably an error (cf. bar 33). category imprint: Differences between sources issues: Long accents , Errors in FE |
