b. 24

composition: Op. 24 No. 4, Mazurka in B♭ minor

..

The slur linking the grace note with the main note in A (→GE1) was omitted from FE (→EE) and GE2. In GE3, an arpeggio symbol was added before the grace note. This might have been prompted by the notation of A, as in his later years Chopin used such slurs to mark arpeggios. However, in the Mazurkas he was still using squiggly lines for that purpose.

b. 32

composition: Op. 24 No. 4, Mazurka in B♭ minor

No slur in A (→GE1FEEE)

A small slur in GE2 (→GE3)

..

We are adding a small slur linking the grace note with the crotchet b flat2. The difference of notation between this bar and the similar bar 24 does not seem intended by Chopin. The sign was already added in GE2 (→GE3).

b. 45-49

composition: Op. 24 No. 4, Mazurka in B♭ minor

Without a slur in A (→GE1FEEE)

A tiny slur in GE2 (→GE3)

..

In bars 45 and 49 in GE2 (→GE3) small slurs were arbitrarily added to link grace notes with their main notes. Chopin did sometimes use such slurs in his notation (e.g. in Mazurka in C no. 2, bar 6), but more often than not he omitted those purely conventional signs. The revision was made for the entire Mazurka.

Possible reading of A

A small slur added in GE2 (→GE3)

..

The notation of the grace note is not clear in A. The slanted line on the right side of the note may be either unclearly written "crossing out" of the note flag or a slur. We adopt - in line with GE (→FEEE) – that the line is the former. In GE2 (→GE3), conventional slur linking the grace note with the main note was added.

b. 50

composition: Op. 24 No. 4, Mazurka in B♭ minor

No arpeggio mark in A (→GE1FEEE)

An arpeggio in GE2 (→GE3)

..

In GE2 (→GE3) an arpeggion mark was added, probably by analogy with bar 112.
