Slurs

b. 49-50

composition: Op. 24 No. 4, Mazurka in B♭ minor

A slur in A, EE and GE2 (→GE3)

A shorter slur in GE1 (→FE)

..

Against the notation of A, in GE1 (→FE) the slur mistakenly ends on the semiquaver. The correct version was restored in  EE and GE2 (→GE3).

b. 52

composition: Op. 24 No. 4, Mazurka in B♭ minor

The supplemented slurs of A

The slur in GE (→FEEE)

..

The tie from bar 51 lacks an ending in the 2nd volta in A. In GE (→FEEE) the tie for b flat1 in the 1st volta reaches that b flat1 in the 2nd volta. It is really astonishing that this nonsensical sign was not corrected in any of the first editions, even in the meticulously revised GE2 and GE3.

b. 57-59

composition: Op. 24 No. 4, Mazurka in B♭ minor

Slurs in A

Slurs in GE

Slurs in FE (→EE)

..

In A, the slur in bar 58 begins above the bar line, which may suggest its intended earlier beginning. This is most probably the reason why it runs from the last chord of bar 57 in GE (→FEEE). However, in the editors' opinion, in this context it is much more likely that the slur is one of those too-widely written slurs frequently found in the autograph of the Mazurkas Op. 24. Cf. bar 60.

In FE (→EE) that slur and the next one are placed under the chords.
