Sustained e flat1 in A and GE2 (→GE3)

Without the e flat1 crotchet in GE1

Unclear slur in FE

A phrase mark in EE

The notation of A leaves no doubt that at the beginning of bars 37 and 99 the note e1 is to be sustained and the note d2 struck. The omission in GE1 (→FEEE) of the stem prolonging e1 in bars 36 and 98 deprived the tie sustaining that note (overlooked in bars 98-99 in the first editions) of its sense. Meanwhile, the slur over both d2 notes assumed the form of a tie in w GE (→FEEE).
