None of the four hairpin marks 
written in bars 24, 28, 32 and 36 in A is unambiguous. Those in bars 24, 32 and 36 have the shape and size typical for long accents, but they are not written under any specific notes, which is unusual in Chopin's autographs. The mark in bar 28 is too long and too wide to be an accent. Therefore in all the four instances we consider hairpins to be much more likely than accents. Both a long accent and a short hairpin mark carry a very similar message performance-wise, so the choice of one or the other possibility may have influence on the way in which a given motif or phrase is perceived.
GE1 (→FE→EE) have accents in bar 24, and diminuendo marks in the remaining places. GE2 (→GE3) have hairpins in all the bars .
