When interpreted literally, the A version must be erroneous – a chord featuring e would be conceivable if there were, for example, a D chord at the beginning of the next bar, which would result in a correct modulation to the key of G minor. However, the resolution to D minor means that this bar is an exact transposition of bar 35 and that the last L.H. crotchet must be A-e, as it is in FE.
