A
compare
b. 154
The version of the sources is almost certainly erroneous, which is supported by the following arguments:
- harmonic reasons – a B minor chord is a more natural introduction to the key of F minor in the next bar than its major counterpart;
- analogy with the next phrase – in an identical phrase 4 bars later (bar 161), there is no doubt as to the use of a minor chord;
- the melodic line of the theme from which the discussed phrase stems (bars 96-99) – in bar 99 there is a b, and not b, which would correspond to the d2 note in the discussed place.
Therefore, in the main text we provide d2.
