Verbal indications

b. 31

composition: (Op. 4), Sonata in C minor, Mvt II

dimin. in A

No indication in GE (→FE,EE,IE)

..

The GE engraver (→FE,EE,IE) probably omitted the verbal indication to make the engraving process easier – dimin. could have seemed superfluous in the face of the diminuendo hairpin in the same place (the second  under the L.H. part was also omitted, perhaps on the same basis). Cf. mov. IV, bars 266 and 268.

b. 39

composition: (Op. 4), Sonata in C minor, Mvt II

 in A (→GEFE,IE)

No markings in EE1

in EE2

..

As in bar 7, the omission of both  signs is a mistake by the EE1 engraver, who committed several dozen mistakes in this and the next 3 bars. EE2 added a  sign, which Chopin used much less often.

The omission of  in FE and of  and  in EE must be the engravers' mistakes.
