g repeated in A (→GE) & FE

g in EE

..

The missing tie to g in A (→GE) and FE could be Chopin's oversight, which is indicated by the comparison with analogous bars. It is probably on the basis thereof that a tie was added by EE, which we include in the main text in this situation. It is worth noting that the need of playing g at the beginning of bar 58 (due to the missing tie) could be related to the fact that in this bar the slur begins earlier – this is the only place (among 8 analogous situations), in which the A slur clearly runs from the beginning of the bar. According to us, however, it is a coincidence.

Slur from beginning of bar in sources

Slur from 3rd quaver suggested by the editors

..

The comparison with analogous bars – see the note on bar 43 – points to a possible mistake by Chopin, as far as the placement of the slur's beginning is concerned. Due to this, in the main text we suggest a slur whose range corresponds to the slurs' range in the analogous bars. See also the note on bars 57-58.

In FE1 the ties to B-f were overlooked. The patent mistake (in this context) was corrected in FE2 (→EE).

Fingering in A (→GE), FE & EE2

No fingering in EE1

..

The missing fingering in EE1 is most probably an oversight by the engraver of this edition. The mistake was corrected in EE2.
