  b. 184

mid-bar after A (→GE)

 under B in FE (→EE)

The difference in the placement of the  marks in bar 184 and 186 may have resulted from a different interpretation of the manuscripts – in A the mark in bar 186 is written before the E1-E octave (such position of this mark is common in Chopin's autographs, particularly when it concerns a lowly placed bass note), which could have been misinterpreted. A similar situation could have occurred in [FC] if Chopin were adding pedal markings to the octave present in the copy – see the note above. On the other hand, numerous differences in the pedalling between A and FE, which cannot be explained by mistakes or inaccuracies, suggest that the FE pedal markings, beginning earlier, should be considered equal variants.
