Staccato dots in GE

..

The missing staccato dots in PE must be an oversight, probably by the engraver – the marks are in all 5 repetitions of this bar. The dots were added in GE, which we include in the main text.

Staccato dot suggested by the editors

..

The missing staccato dot in this bar is probably an oversight by Chopin – cf. bar 10. A similar situation is in bar 50 and 122.

Staccato dot in GE & PE4

..

The missing staccato dot under the bass note in the first impressions of PE must be an oversight (in this and the next bar). Relevant marks are present in analogous figures both before (bars 33-35) and after (bar 38). In the main text we add a dot in both places, as it was performed in GE and PE4.

Staccato dot in GE & PE4

b. 49-55

composition: WN 29, Waltz in E minor

..

In PE4 the staccato dots in the L.H. part are mostly invisible – it is only the marks in bars 49 and 55 that are visible, out of which it is only the latter that is clear. This adverse effect resulted from the change of printing technique to lithography; it is noticeable in some impressions of other pieces too. We do not consider it a variant.
